The monthly nominations for the club person, male and female athletes are collated at the end of the financial year. The members of the committee condense those that have been nominated during the year down to a top 8 in each category. From the committee's votes the top 8 most popular nominees are made into an overall Trotter of the Year category. The members of Terrigal Trotters vote for their top club person, male athlete, female athlete and Trotter of the Year.

The junior athlete is voted by the committee members only and includes both athletic ability and contribution to club activities such as volunteering and assisting.

The winners of these awards are announced at the annual Trotter of the Year Night which takes place in August.
